Newsletter #61

We are thrilled to be able to announce the next Strings Attached Coffee Concert season. It will again be held at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) at the University of Sussex. Those who attended the 2019/20 season will be pleased to see that the Maxwell Quartet and the Mithras Trio are to return; and those who watched Joanna MacGregor and the Brighton Philharmonic Chamber Ensemble online in 2020/21 will see that their tradition of combining unusual works with the great classics continues.

RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP

Now is the time to renew your membership of Strings Attached for the period 1 August 2021 to 31 July 2022, unless you have already done so or have only recently joined. No subscription was required for the 2020/21 season, although many members chose to renew voluntarily and some made generous donations. And indeed, although there was no formal concert season, work continued behind the scenes and we were able to offer three live-streamed concerts.

Membership forms can be downloaded from www.stringsattachedmusic.org.uk/friends/. They can be returned by post to the address on the form or by attaching them to an email. For Gift Aid purposes please complete one form per person.
Payment can be made by cheque or by bank transfer. The latter is much more convenient for us. Use your surname as the reference. If paying by cheque there may be a delay before the cheque is paid in.
Paid-up members will receive a membership card which, to save postage, will be given out at the October, and subsequent, concerts. It will give access to a free glass of sherry or fruit juice during concert intervals.

We very much hope you will choose to renew your membership and support our work – and that you will encourage like-minded people to join us as well.

We are looking for people to review our concerts
Andrew Polmear has reviewed our concerts for the last ten years but fears that his increasing deafness might mean he misses something. Anyone who would like to try their hand at even just an occasional review is invited to contact the secretary, Margaret Polmear.

Do you use social media?
We are also looking for someone who knows their way around the social media world to help us get in touch with a younger audience. After all, if they are aged 8 to 25 their tickets will be free under the Cavatina scheme. Contact our Chair, Mary McKean, if you think you might be able to help.

OTHER EVENTS

The Calendar on www.stringsattachedmusic.org.uk contains news of other chamber music events in the area, uncertain though some of them are. On 1 August at 12.30 pm is an unusual concert in the newly restored Berwick Church. The Ludlay String Quartet will play Mozart and Schubert.

The Nicholas Yonge Society in Lewes restarts its concert series on 8 October with the Barbican Quartet and the Seaford Music Society restarts on 24 October ( if you can cope with two concerts in one day).
