Newsletter #53

We regret to say that we are still unable to announce plans for a possible 2020/21 coffee concert season. However, we have two announcements to make which might interest our members.

Seaford Music Society are to stream three live concerts:

  • 25 July  Raphael Wallfisch (cello) and Sebastian Comberti (cello) play works for solo cello and two cellos
  • 8 August  Sebastian and Nancy Cooley (piano) play a varied programme based around Beethoven’s C major cello sonata Opus 102
  • 12 September  Sebastian and Julia Bishop (violin) play a baroque programme

Details can be found on http://www.seafordmusicsociety.com . A £5 ticket for each concert, bought online, is needed for access to the Zoom link.

The Corbridge Chamber Music Festival 2020 will go ahead but with concerts streamed free, via YouTube, from the players’ homes. At the centre of the Festival are the Gould Piano Trio and Robert Plane (clarinet). They are joined by the Elias Quartet and other friends, including a poet and a dancer. The Gould have played at The Old Market, Hove, when Alice Neary was their cellist, now replaced by Richard Lester. The Elias have played three times at Strings Attached coffee concerts as well as at Brighton Festival.

The first concert is on Friday 24 July at 7pm (Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations). Concerts continue from then until Sunday 26 July at 7 pm (the Elias playing Schumann’s String Quartet No.1 and the Gould playing Brahms’ Piano Trio in B Opus 8 (revised version)). They can be viewed live or on demand. For details go to https://corbridgefestival.co.uk .
