Your Membership Matters

Dear Friends,

Thank you for being part of Strings Attached. Your membership enables us to play an active part in supporting quality chamber music here in Brighton & Hove through our active partnership with Brighton Dome.

Some newer members have asked how our partnership works. Essentially, the team at Brighton Dome is responsible for providing the venue, organising and advertising the programme and booking the musicians, as well as covering any financial losses. The role of Strings Attached is to support the programme by advising, ensuring steady and increasing audience numbers, encouraging individual sponsorship, and providing sponsorship ourselves through offering free tickets for young people or, on occasion, support for a particular performance.

As with all arts organisations, Brighton Dome has had to concentrate this year on maximising its financial position, and is intending to make full use of the wonderful, refurbished Corn Exchange in its programming. This has resulted, unfortunately, in creating scheduling difficulties for our Sunday morning coffee concerts. With the venue planned to be used more frequently on Saturday nights, there are difficulties in having it re-set and ready in time for a Sunday morning concert. Thus, we have only 4 scheduled coffee concerts over the 26/27 season.

The committee of Strings Attached fully shares members’ disappointment at this outcome and will be working with the Brighton Dome over the next months to see if a better outcome can be found for 27/28. We will be advising members on possibilities next year after discussions with the Brighton Dome team.

In this context, your membership is even more important. The committee joins me in once again thanking you for your continued support and looks forward to seeing and talking with you at concerts and receptions over the next year.
