It will come as no surprise to Friends that we are unable to promise anything in the way of concerts for the remainder of the 2020/21 season. It’s not that we don’t have plans; it’s more that they seem unlikely to come to fruition at the moment. We can, however, report that work on the Corn Exchange continues to go well and we expect to be able to return there, Covid-19 permitting, by the beginning of 2022.
We are, however, obliged by our constitution to hold an Annual General Meeting. This year it will be a virtual meeting on
Friday 12 February at 11 am on Zoom
If you wish to take part contact Margaret Polmear on m.polmear@btinternet.com. She will provide a link enabling you to join. Papers relating to the meeting are available here . Click on ‘AGM 2021 Agenda‘ for access to all of them. They are:
- the Agenda,
- the Draft Minutes of the 2020 AGM,
- the Annual Report from the Committee,
- the Report of Income and Expenditure,
- the Data Protection Policy and
- an amendment to the Register of Systems arising from an issue raised at the last AGM.
Weekly online tutorials from the Gildas Quartet
They call it ‘Tune-up Tuesday’. Amateur and student string players of all levels are invited to join in on Zoom. It’s at 4.30 pm and each session features one of the three instruments of a string quartet and is led by two of the players of the Gildas who gave that wonderful live streamed concert on 22 November last. Find out more at http://www.gildasquartet.com/tune-up-tuesdays .It lasts 30 – 40 minutes, features some discussion of a topic, exercises for you to join in (muted) and a look at excerpts from the string quartet repertoire. There’s no charge but a suggested minimum donation for four sessions is £30. However, the Gildas stresses that you should not be put off if you can’t afford this. The series begins on 19 January when Anna (cello) presents and Gemma (violin) works on a study.
