Welcome to our thirteenth newsletter – a brief one to remind you of our 2016 launch concert, to announce a programme change for the December concert, and to urge those who have not yet renewed their membership to do so now!
The launch concert by the Doric String Quartet, generously sponsored by Strings Attached founder member Tina Gee, will take place on Tuesday, 20 September at 7.30 pm in the Brighton Dome Corn Exchange. The programme is as follows:
HAYDN: Quartet in D Op 64/5 ‘The Lark’
BARTOK: Quartet No 4
SCHUBERT: Quartettsatz D703
DEBUSSY: String Quartet in G minor Op 10
Tickets cost £18.50 (concessions £16) or £15 if you have purchased a season ticket for the Sunday morning coffee concerts (see below).
The concert will be preceded by a reception for members only.
We are hoping to see as many of you as possible there – the canapés will be especially nice, the elderflower cordial especially sparkling, the wine of the highest quality. But this does mean that, if you have not already renewed your membership, we ask you to do so by 16 September, so that we can complete the necessary paperwork and have as up-to-date a list of members as possible available on the 20th. We can cope with a few renewing on the evening but if everyone delays until then there won’t be much time for the reception.
Membership renewal forms can be downloaded from https://www.stringsattachedmusic.org.uk/friends . For Gift Aid reasons, please complete one form per person. Paid-up members will receive a membership card which, to save postage, we plan to distribute initially at the September concert and which can be used to obtain a free glass of sherry or fruit juice during coffee concert intervals.
The Sunday morning coffee concerts resume in October, all starting at 11.00am. The October concert will be held in the Brighton Dome Concert Hall, while the remaining five concerts will be at The Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (formerly the Gardner Centre) at the University of Sussex at Falmer. The move, as you will no doubt recall, is temporary, during the extensive refurbishment of the Brighton Dome Corn Exchange. For more details of the planned developments see http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/content/leisure-and-libraries/museums-and-attractions/royal-pavilion-estate .
